Feb. 3 – “Homo Sapiens. An unauthorized biography,” is the latest book written by Claudio Tuniz and Patrizia Tiberi Vipraio to recount human evolution and imagine its future developments. Millenias ago, it was the Planet of the Apes, but when the forests started retreating, some species assumed the upright position, freeing their upper limbs. Those with a larger brain were then able to build tools and dominate the fire. In an increasingly hostile and variable environment, some were able to communicate and improve their coordination, forming larger and larger groups, thus becoming a social organism. But to govern it, they had to create imaginary realities, invent symbols, hand down myths and religions, establish institutions. They demanded also to bend nature to their desires, colonizing the entire planet. This is the Planet of Man. But, who can save manking from itself? This is what the essay, published by Carocci (2015), tries to answer, and this is what the authors will explain on February 12 at 6pm at the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney.
