Mar. 2 – Italian video art takes over the Cinémathèque Québécoise in Montreal, on Wednesday, March 4 (at 7pm) and on Wednesday, March 11 (also at 7pm). The Italian Cultural Institute of the Canadian city is presenting the exhibition “Archetypes of Italian contemporary video art.” The project is part of “Création Vidéo: Trois temps, trois lieu,” and wants to study the original models of human existence using video art. The curators of the exhibition – Guido Bartorelli, Paolo Granata, Silvia Grandi, Fabiola Naldi, and Stefania Portinari – are professors at the universities of Bologna, Padua and Venice. They selected 36 contemporary artists Italian grouped in the archetypes: The rite; The game; The gesture; The journey; The Self. The two projections, entitled Archetypes of Italian Contemporary Video Art Selection 1 and Selection n. 2, were made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal with ARType (Archetypes of Contemporary Video Art), a project sponsored by the City of Vicenza in collaboration with the Universities of Bologna, Padua and Venice. “This exhibition of Italian video art – reads the statement of the Italian Cultural Institute – lives within a context of strong partnership between the Institute and the Cinémathèque Québécoise, one of the most important and prestigious cultural institutions of Quebec.” Among the 36 Italian artists, there are Stefano Cagol, Silvia Lamporesi, Virginia Mori and Donato Sansone.
