Mar. 6 – For the 154th anniversary of the Italian Unification, the Italian Cultural Institute in Warsaw has organized the screening of the film “Noi Credevamo” by Mario Martone. The screenplay, written by the director and Giancarlo De Cataldo, is loosely based on the novel by Anna Banti and other historical events. The film, presented at the 67th edition of the Venice Film Festival, is divided into four chapters (“Choices”, “Domenico”, “Angelo” and “Dawn of the nation”), thus telling the story of three boys from southern Italy: Salvatore, played by Luigi Pisani; Domenico, interpreted by Luigi Lo Cascio and Angelo, played by Valerio Binasco. In 1828, the three chose to participate in the political Republican movement “Giovine Italia” founded by Giuseppe Mazzini. Their lives take different directions and streets, and help the viewer retrace key events of the Italian Risorgimento. This monumental work won seven David di Donatello and a Nastro d’Argento for Best Picture in 2010. The screening, with English subtitles, is scheduled at 5pm at the headquarters of the Institute.
