Mar. 11 – Umbria and Brazil join forces in the name of decentralized cooperation, “for whose development we put into play the entrepreneurial excellence, the peculiarities and vocations of the territory, for the growth of both Umbria and Brazi.” These are the words of the Region’s Vice President, Carla Casciari, spoken at Palazzo Donini to a delegation of the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo (FIESP), who is visiting the region for a series of institutional and commercial meetings. The Brazilian delegation includes the Director of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Trade, Thomaz Zanotto, accompanied by Senator Fausto Guilherme Longo, elected in the South American country and member of the Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Senate and the Committee for Italians Abroad. The meeting saw the participation of, among others, representatives from the University of Perugia (Professor Fabio Maria Santucci, Delegate for International Cooperation, and Professor Gianna Figa Talamanca from the Department of Economics), and from the regional company Sviluppumbria. “The Milan Expo – commented the vice president – offers an important opportunity for both regions to promote their systems, in a moment of encounter between Umbria’s and Sao Paulo’s small and medium enterprises. We want to continue and consolidate these successful experiences built over the years. Umbria and Brazil share a long tradition of exchange and cooperation, also linked to the presence in Latin America of many immigrants from Umbria. In recent years, relations developed thanks to the Brasil Proximo interregional program of international cooperation, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of which Umbria is the leader.” This program “is divided into several sectors, and with the operational coordination of Sviluppumbria – noted Casciari – we were able to offer the best of Umbria’s system. This is something we want to continue, for the benefit of our territories and of our businesses.” (Red)
