Mar. 16 – To look back at Eduardo De Filippo’s universe means to cover a century of Italian history, to grasp the changes in manners, tastes and trends recounted with passion and clarity by the Neapolitan playwright. “The theater of Eduardo De Filippo” is a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 25 at 6pm at the Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest to do just as much. The conference will see the participation of Ilona Fried (ELTE University, Budapest), a theater expert. The Neapolitan playwright, who assed away a little over thirty years ago (Naples 1900 – Rome 1984), is considered the last representative of classic Italian theater. He bequeathed upon Italian culture a new way of doing, writing and reciting theater, a modern way to live and communicate it. De Filippo was one of the greatest authors of 20th century theater, and perhaps the last representative of popular contemporary drama. (Gil)
