Apr. 1 – “The war and new technologies: the paradox of positive externalities” is a conference on the First World War scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 (4pm) at the Italian Cultural Institute of Budapest, which will see the participation of Luciano Segreto, Professor of Economic History at the University of Florence, and Márton Békés, from the House of Terror Museum. The museum is located in the building used as headquarters of the political police during both the Nazi and period, and today witnesses the tragic effects of the regimes that oppressed Hungary during and after the Second World War. “The Great War – reads a presentation statement of the Italian Cultural Institute – marked a definitive break both for Italy and the other countries that took part in it. The armies weren’t the only ones that faced each other. The industrial equipment saw thousands and thousands of men, often from the countryside, experience for the first time modernity and the use of new technologies.” The conference was organized with the support of the Italian National Committee for the Celebration of the Centenary of the First World War, the Commemorative Committee of the Hungarian Centenary of the First World War, and in collaboration with the Institute of the Twentieth Century.
