Brussels – The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry announced that the Official Journal of the European Union published the Implementing Regulation for the inscription in the PGI list of products of the Red Potato from Colfiorito. With this new recognition, Italian PDO and PGI products now amount to 270, consolidating the leadership that our country has had for years now in the food sector. The name “Red Potato from Colfiorito” refers to the mature tubers of Solanum tuberosum of the Solanaceae family, with a characteristic red peel and light yellow pulp. The factors that determine the reputation and recognition of these features are mainly due to its cultivation technique, the type of storage used and the specific soil and climate, which refers to the mountainous part of the Apennines between the provinces of Perugia and Macerata.
