London – The Sony World Photography Awards 2015 confers the title of Photographer of the Year for the people and sports categories to two Italians: Riccardo Bononi and Giovanni Troilo. With 5 other awards in the professional categories (all in second and third place), Italy was by far the country with the largest number of winners. The award-winning Italian photographers, other than Troilo and Bononi, are: Massimo Siragusa (second place in the Architecture category), Alessandra Bello (second in the Art and Culture category), Antonio La Grotta (third place in the Architecture category), Annalisa Natali Murri (third place in the Contemporary History category), and Giulio di Sturco (third place in the Landscape category). The finalists included 19 Italians. While Turi Calafato won the Sony World Photography Mobile Phone Award, a new category introduced in this edition and dedicated to photographs taken with smartphones or tablets. The winning entries are exhibited at Somerset House in London from today until May 10, and will be published in the new volume of the competition. (9colonne)
