May 19 – After the actions in favor of the populations affected by the 2004 tsunami in East Asia, by the 2009 earthquake in Abruzzo, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the one in Emilia in 2013, the Haiyan typhoon that ravaged the Philippines in November of the same year, Trentino mobilizes once again in favor of the population in Nepal, hit by a devastating earthquake. “Close to Nepal” is an initiative that features institutions, associations and employers. “Close to Nepal – reads a note from the Autonomous Province – sees Trentino close to Langtang, on the high altitude trekking path. This is an open wound for us: along many Nepalese, the casualties include Oskar Piazza, Renzo Benedetti and Marco Pojer.” It is also in their name, then, that the Autonomous Province of Trento has decided, with the Consortium of Municipalities, the Employers’ Organizations and Trade Unions to sign an Agreement of Solidarity, preliminarily approved yesterday by the Provincial Government and activate a “Solidarity for the 2015 Earthquake in Nepal Fund.” The fund will use the current account already opened by the Province to receive voluntary contributions paid by workers. The sum paid by the employees and employers will amount to 1 or more hours of work, but it can also be paid in units of €10. For now, €46,655 have been raised, to which should be added the € 50,000 paid by the Province. The Technical Committee appointed by the Province within the Tavolo Nepal initiative will decide which projects will benefit from the total amount raised. The projects were presented by the Trentino international solidarity associations operating in Nepal (among which SAT, Caritas and the civil protection system). (Red)
