(May 25) The Creative Cities Network was promoted by UNESCO in 2004 to create a link between cities characterized by strong cultural creativity, crucial to their identity. The cities that join the network are recognized as a creative “hub” cable to convey cultural and socio-economic development through a system made up of businesses and cultural workers. The creative cities recognized by UNESCO riunited for the first time in Bologna in 2013. Today, the annual meeting of the Creative Cities Network takes place in Japan. The host of the event – until May 27 – is the city of Kanazawa, where delegates from 69 cities operating in the seven disciplines of music, design, film, crafts and folk art, gastronomy, literature, digital arts will come together. Bologna, already elected to lead the Subnetwork for Music, became a member of the Governing Body of the network, the Steering Group, and is called upon to preside over and address a session of the assembly focused on the future priorities of the Same Body. In addition, a seminar feature the participation of mayors and administrators will focus on how Creative Cities share experiences and invest in their creative sector to build sustainable and inclusive urban development. The role of Bologna will be highlighted in another roundtable aimed at the candidate cities and more generally to an audience of politicians, associations, universities and private companies, in which the Head of the Municipality of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, will explain the best practices and experience implemented by Bologna Creative City.
