Sao Paulo – Until June 21, the Modern Art Museum of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, hosts the first exhibition ever held in South America on Piero Manzoni (1933-1963). The exhibition, curated by Paulo Venancio Filho in collaboration with the Foundation Manzoni in Milan, presents a selection of 28 of the best known works by the Milanese artist. The exhibition features the Achrome white series that transform the canvas into solid lines that aspire to infinity; the balloons filled with the artist’s breath; and the famous – and perhaps still not fully understood – Scatoletta di Merda. The works focus on the last and most creative years of the artist, from 1957 to 1963, when he died prematurely at 29 due to a heart attack. According to a ranking by Artprice, Manzoni is third in terms of prices at which Italian artists were sold in Brazil in 2014, preceded only by Modigliani and Lucio Fontana. (9colonne)
