Chiara Gamberale represents Italy at the third edition of Lisbon’s Night of European Literature. Scheduled for June 6 from 6pm to 11pm, the event is a literary journey in ten spaces of the charming neighborhood of Príncipe Real, giving the public a chance to discover and hear the works of ten contemporary European writers. The Night of European Literature is organized by the Embassies and Cultural Institutes that are part of EUNIC Portugal: the Italian Cultural Institute, Camões – Instituto da Cooperação and Língua, the Embassy of Austria, the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of Greece, the Goethe -Institut, the Institut Français du Portugal, the Instituto Cervantes, the Instituto Cultural Romanian and the Ibero-American Institute of Finland – joined by the Portuguese Representation of the European Commission. All readings are open to the public for free and last 10-15 minutes each; every half hour the same reading is repeated, so as to allow the public to visit all areas of the literary journey.
The Italian author will be in the Sala do Brasão of the Museum of São Roque (one of the most important museums in Portugal, as it has one of the most complete collections of religious art, with works from the 16th to the 20th century). Gamberale will read in Italian excerpts from her book “Per dieci minuti”, while the actress Rita Brütt will read the Portuguese translation. The Roman writer has been translated into 16 countries and has long topped the sales charts in Spain and in Latin America. In Portugal, Porto Editora translated and published in
2012 Gamberale’s “Le luci nelle case degli altri” with the title “As nas luzes casas dos outros”.
