June 1 – On Sunday, June 7 (at 7pm), the exhibition hall of the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo hosts the opening of the exhibition “Alessandro Monti. Italian design on Egyptian textiles.”
The event, organized by the Italian Institute of Culture in collaboration with collector and curator Francis Amin, will exhibit works by the Italian designer, who resides in Alexandria, Egypt. The event is promoted by Gionata Ricci Alunni of the Cultural Association “Promo Italia,” and will give the public the opportunity to discover and admire the artist’s work. Monti, now ninety years old, began his career in 1956 with the application of Italian design to local fabrics, inserting floral decorations, as well as ancient Egyptian and Islamic ornaments. Between 1970 and 2001, Monti was president of the Italian Charity Society of Alexandria, and since 1977 he is President of the Institute Dante Alighieri, where he “witnesses over and over again the miracle of hearing girls and boys speak Italian.” (Red)
