June 3 – Another important international recognition has just arrived for “Quarante”, the new album by Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino released in April by Ponderosa Music & Arts, to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of one of the most important and recognized groups of Italian folk music. The album currently ranks in third place in the June World Music Chart Europe, an international ranking compiled every month by experts from forty different European countries (www.wmce.de). The playlist of the rankings will be broadcast on radio shows across Europe all month. Quaranta’s international success goes beyond the World Music Chart Europe, as the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino obtained great reviews on the printed press, receiving four stars from Robin Denselow on The Guardian. The British newspaper has compiled a playlist by inserting the single “Solo andata” at the top of the best folk and world songs. Folk Roots, one of the world’s most important magazines for the genre, talks about the Apulian group and their latest work. Chris Nickson called the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino “without a doubt one of the best band in the world right now.” Finally, Quaranta arrived in the States, on PopMatters, which wrote, “with Quaranta, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, a band rooted in the past but thoroughly contemporary, has made an outstanding album that feels both of the moment and timeless.”
