21 July, 2015 – Pisa and Buenos Aires are closer than ever thanks to common security and research interests, particularly thanks to the research projects carried out by the University of Pisa in collaboration with the Nucleoeléctrica Argentina SA, the largest public company in the Argentine energy sector, which covered the research and analysis of nuclear power plant Atucha-2 safety. The Atucha nuclear power plant t is located in Lima, in the Province of Buenos Aires; it consists of 2 PHWR reactors of 1097 MW, while two other reactors in the same site are currently under development. The results achieved in the context of this important scientific activity were presented during a ceremony at the University of Pisa, in recent days, in the presence of the Ambassador of Argentina to Italy, Nicolas Salvador Torcuato Di Tella. The initiative was attended by Dean Massimo Augello, general manager Riccardo Grasso, Professor Francesco D’Auria, coordinator of the Pisa Nuclear Research Group of San Piero a Grado, the President of the NA-SA José Luis Antúnez, who spoke by video conference, the head of the international sector Javier Farias and the Heaf of Safety of the nuclear power plants Oscar Mazzantini. “The purpose of the event – said Professor D’Auria – is to emphasize the technological results of the project, the working methods adopted, and the different aspects that led to a great end result, all of which can serve as a basis for possible and desirable further cooperation.” “This important partnership – said Dean Augello – testifies to the vitality and international prestige of the University’s nuclear engineering department, which for several decades has been at the forefront on issues related to the safety of nuclear installations, which are very delicate, and of great public impact. “(red)
