29 July, 2015 – Grana Padano exports soar and consolidate the cheese’s title as most consumed PDO product in the world. On the national consumer front, despite the crisis, the first six months of 2015 registered essentially stable sales. While exports continued to grow in the first quarter: + 10% with 660,000 cheeses exported. “From January to June – explains Nicola Cesare Baldrighi, President of the Consorzio Tutela Grana Padano – there was a particularly relevant surge in the United States, where, thanks to the effects of the revaluation of the dollar, exports increased by 60% with 67,000 cheeses marketed overseas in just four months. Also very positive are the numbers concerning the EU market, particularly in Germany and Spain where exports increased by 9%. Inevitable, however, are the negative effects of the sanctions against Russia, where we registered drop in consumption of 80%, amounting to €3.8 million in just 4 months. Sales for grated parmesan cheese grew instead by 5%, equal to 1,171,400 cheeses.” (Red)
