31 July, 2015 – There are many initiatives around the world to honor the 750th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s birth. The celebration anticipates another important anniversary – that of 2021 – when Italy will remember the 700th anniversary of Dante’s death. To celebrate the father of the Italian language, the Italian Cultural Institute of Guatemala City – which aims to promote and spread the Italian language and culture in Guatemala through the organization of cultural events – is organizing a meeting with Dante Liano. Entitled “Dante meets Dante,” the event will see Liano, National Literature Prize in 1991, writer, poet, novelist, literary critic and university professor, read and comment the famous Canto V of the Inferno. Dante Liano was born in Chimaltenango (Guatemala) in 1948. He graduated in literature at the Universidad de San Carlos, and holds a PhD in Literature from the University of Florence. He taught at several Italian universities and currently lives in Milan, where he teaches Spanish literature and Spanish American literature at the Catholic University. Liano is known as a careful scholar and connoisseur of the great Italian poet. The meeting is scheduled for August 6 at 6:30pm at the headquarters of the Italian Institute of Culture in Guatemala City. (Red)
