Oslo – What happens when Italians, risking their own life, begin to fight the Mafia? This is what Kristian Aale imagines happens in his latest novel “I Coraggiosi,” wrote after six years of extensive travels in Italy’s mafia-ridden south. Aale takes the reader in Sicily, where the first anti-mafia movement was born as a reaction to Cosa Nostra, in the poorest neighborhoods of Naples where the Camorra built its power on the smuggling of cigarettes and drugs, and in the small Calabrian town of San Luca from where the ‘Ndrangheta rule their empire. The author, who worked for 14 years at the Aftenposten newspaper, will speak, on 27 August at 6:30pm, the Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo. (9colonne)
