September 8th, 2015 – It’s good for you and the planet. The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition Foundation brings its new corporate mission to the 5th Global Forum on Sustainability, held in Basel September 7-9. The Foundation is presenting two case studies: one on the Double Food Pyramid, a tool to inform consumers and guide them towards better and more sustainable options; and the “Sì.Mediterraneo” project, with which Barilla puts into practice the guidelines of the Double Pyramid to promote sustainable and quality eating habits among its employees. All this, of course, in the name of what’s “good for You, and good for the Planet.” The “Sì.Mediterraneo” project wants to improve the welfare of Barilla employees and their awareness about the environmental impact of their consumption. “The initiative started in 2011 – said Ludovica Principato, Barilla Foundation researcher and speaker at the World Sustainability Forum – by involving the canteen of the Barilla headquarters in Pedrignano, in the municipality of Parma, and then spread to the whole group in 2013. In Pedrignano, the initiative has led to 65kg of CO2, 40 cubic meters of water and 1,000 m2 of ecological footprint saved per day.” The Double Food Pyramid is an instrument that relates the nutritional facts of food to their environmental impact, through which it shows that foods with a lower environmental impact are also the best for us: in particular fruits, vegetables and cereal-based products.
