September 16th, 2015 – The Italian electrical industry is growing, albeit shyly, once again. At the end of 2014, the sector recorded a year on year growth of 1%, with different trends between sectors. In line with the performance of recent years, the good news is related to the incidence of foreign trade – mainly due to geographical diversification strategies pursued by Italian operators: of the €55 billion recorded in December 2014, as many as €30 billion were generated by sales in foreign markets, with an turnover incidence of 55%. Exports grew by + 2.5%, in great contrast to the still stagnant domestic demand. The sector’s performance was illustrated by Claudio Andrea Gemme, President of Confindustria Anie (which has more than 1,200 member companies and about 410,000 employees), at the annual shareholders meeting in Milan, which also elected him as President for another 12 months. The positive figures seem to be holding up, according to data for the first months of 2015. In the field of Electrotechnical and Electronics, Istat data for the first quarter of 2015 show a + 1.8% increase on total revenue compared to the same period of 2014. For 2015, Anie estimates an aggregate revenue growth of 1%. The data analysis shows that the internationalization and R & D investments were the drivers that enabled Anie companies to survive in the recessionary climate. Regarding exports, it’s clear that all companies in the sector are successful, not only the larger ones. In fact, more than half of the value of total exports of Italian Electrical and Electronics originated from small and medium-sized enterprises, compared to the 40% registered ten years ago. In some sectors, exports came to account for 70% of the total turnover, for 90.4% for cables and 91.8% for electronic components.
