New York – The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Gentiloni, participated yesterday in New York in a ministerial meeting on Afghanistan, co-chaired by the US Secretary of State John Kerry, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of China, Wang Yi , and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah. The meeting was an opportunity to emphasize the progress made in the country thanks to the international community’s efforts. In his speech, Minister Gentiloni stressed that in the last 14 years Afghanistan has made significant progress in terms of democracy and human rights, and expressed Italy’s pride for having contributed in this process, “but the challenges are still many. The country must vigorously pursue the reform process so as to continue to receive the economic and financial support of partner countries such as Italy, and gain the confidence of private investors. Peace in Afghanistan – concluded the minister – cannot be achieved without the cooperation of other countries in the region.” (9Colonne)
