Paris – Today in Paris the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini, and the president of the French National Assembly, Claude Bartolone, signed a joint declaration on the rights of users on the web. “The Internet has become an indispensable technology for economic, social and cultural development of our democratic societies. As such, it should be considered a common good that cannot be subject to appropriation for the benefit of both public and private actors. It must remain in the service of the people. Our two committees state, at the international level, the concept of the Internet as a global common good,” reads the joint statement from the Commission on rights and duties on the internet of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, and the Commission for reflection and proposal on the right and liberties in the digital age of the French National Assembly.
