October 19th, 2015 – Distant and fascinating music, folklore, jazz and traditions all in a special evening – one that was held yesterday in Johannesburg – which brought together Naples to South Africa. The prestigious Theatre on the Square, in the square named after Mandela, hosted a musical performance by “Afroneapolitan Suite” for ten cellos, with the original score by Lucio Franco Amanti, internationally known Italian composer and cellist for the Munich Opera. The project was born from Amanti’s talent with that of South African cellist Berthine van Schoor, and with the young musicians of his academy. It was a musical event and also an occasion to say goodbye to the Italian Ambassador, Neapolitan Vincenzo Schioppa Narrante (appointed Ambassador to South Africa with competence also on Namibia, Lesotho, Mauritius and Madagascar, who took office in Pretoria on November 24, 2011). The ensemble named itself “Muna-cello”, playing with the word Munaciello, the kind goblin of the Neapolitan tradition. The audience included the former President of South Africa Kgalema Motlanthe, members of the central government and regional representatives of the business community, academics, film stars and the show.
