October 23rd, 2015 – On January 1, 2015 there were more than 4.6 million Italians living abroad registered at the AIRE, 3.3% more compared to the previous year. The increase is mainly due to new migration flows, which in 2014 saw 101,297 people leave Italy for a 7.6% increase compared to the previous year (in 2013, 94,127 people left). Predominantly men between the ages of 18 and 34 left, according to the profile drawn up by the Migrantes Foundation, who recently presented in Rome its 10th “Italians in the World” report. The report is now being presented in Cologne with a conference scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30 at 6pm at the Italian Cultural Institute of the city. The meeting – moderated by journalist Luciana Mella – will see the participation of the Consul General of Italy Emilio Lolli, Mons. Gian Carlo Perego (General Director of the Migrantes Foundation), Delfina Licata (editor in chief of the “Italians in the World” report), Edith Pilcher (University of Potsdam) and Father Tobia Bassanelli (CEO of the Migrantes Foundation in Germany). A specific chapter of the Report is dedicated to Italy’s presence in Germany, which in 2014 saw 720.000 registered at the AIRE, focusing on the specificities of the new emigration flow. The presentation of the study is part of the 60th anniversary celebrations since the signing of the Italo-German Treaty. (Red)
