Krusevac – The Italian company Building Energy, a multinational that operates as Global Integrated IPP in the renewable energy sector, and the Municipality of Krusevac announced the start of construction works for a biomass power plant in Krusevac, central Serbia. This is the first combined heat and power plant in the country, with an installed capacity respectively 4,8MWe and 20MWt, designed to generate 38,4GWh of electricity and 86GWh of thermal energy per year. The development of the project, worth €27 million, was established by the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Building Energy and the City of Krusevac, which provides for close cooperation in the creation of an electricity production center from renewable sources. The plant will be fueled by reclaimed wood chips produced during the regular cleaning of Serbian forests. The sale of thermal energy, the stipulates the ten-year contract between Building Energy and the thermal power plant of Krusevac, will meet a large share of heating needs in the city, which counts about 110,000 inhabitants. The sale of electricity is, however, regulated by a contract with EPS (manager of the state network) according to the feed-in tariff rules in place in Serbia. (9Colonne)
