Brazzaville – Eni has made a new gas and condensate discovery in offshore Congo, in the exploration prospect Nkala Marine, located in Block Marine XII, about 20 kilometers from the coast and 3 km from the already active Nene Marine field. The discovery, made in the Nkala Marine 1 well, is estimated to hold a potential of 250-300 million barrels of oil equivalent. During the production test, the well flowed per day 300,000 cubic meters of gas with associated condensate. The well, drilled at a water depth of 38 meters, discovered a major build-up of gas and condensate in the pre-salt clastic geological sequence of the lower Cretaceous age, through a hydrocarbon column of 240 meters. Eni is to begin the evaluation phase through the delineation of new wells. At the same time, together with the partners of the joint venture, the company will start studying business development opportunities in the context of optimized exploitation of oil and gas discoveries of the Marine XII permit.
