December 2nd, 2015 – COP21, the United Nations climate summit taking place in Paris features an official event organized by the University of Florence’s spin-off, Carbon Sink. The event, organized in collaboration with the Italian non-profit organization Climate Network, is scheduled for tomorrow (Observer Room 2, 3pm – Congress center of Le Bourget). The meeting will focus on the theme of greenhouse gas emissions compensation, at the center of research and technology transfers promoted by Carbon Sink. The event will be the occasion to present “FairCarbon”, the first Italian online platform for the exchange of certified volunteer carbon credits, which will be analyzed as a tool to introduce technologies and innovations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and as a vehicle to accelerate sustainable development on the local and global scale. One of the projects related to “FairCarbon” led to the installation of 5.000 ecological kitchens in Ethiopia and 16.000 in Mozambique (where they traditionally use wood and coal, respectively). “Every project – explains Andrea Maggiani, founding partner and director of the Carbon Sink Group – is an opportunity for ethical investment. All projects have a strong social impact, with repercussions on the local economy and on people’s health, also enhancing the role of Italian international cooperation.” (Red)
