Khartoum – Support to the refugee / migrants populations and their host communities is the goal of the new initiatives in Sudan approved by the Steering Committee for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The work of the Italian Cooperation in the country, through a sectoral and geographical approach, is enhanced and enriched with the approval of two new voluntary contributions to the UNHCR and UNOPS of €500,000 each. These will be responsible for providing basic services for the improvement of living conditions of refugees and host communities in Eastern Sudan, an area that for decades has been affected by these migration and crossroads dynamics at the regional level. A contribution of €725,000, managed by the Embassy-Italian Cooperation Office in Sudan, will also serve to implement a new humanitarian initiative in the states of Red Sea, Kassala and Gedaref, always in Eastern Sudan, to support vulnerable populations affected by disasters, with special attention to children, women, disabled persons, refugees and migrant populations in difficulty.
