December 24th, 2015 – “L’Inferno” is a silent movie from the early 20th century by Francesco Bertolini, Giuseppe de Liguoro and Adolfo Padovan, produced by Milano Films. The film is the first feature in Italian cinema history. After having been polished with a live rendition of the music – by Marco Castelli – it will be screened at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York (at 6pm on January 12). The movie adaptation of the first part of the Divine Comedy was available only in damaged, mutilated or censored copies. In 2011, it was finally returned to its original form, with the correct sequence of shots, to the fullness of its light and its colors after a long process of restoration. Marco Castelli is a saxophonist and composer who for years has worked in theater, dance and contemporary performances. His formula offers a live sax and electronics for the live soundtrack of this masterpiece, transporting the audience into a world of sound that makes it even more exciting to watch the incredible images of the film.
