(7 January 2016) On January 26-29 Essen, Germany, will host the 34th edition of the IPM fair, a leading global trade fair for horticulture and gardening. The Italian Trade Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies will be setting up an open space as part of its second year activities for the Plan Export South. The goal is to get companies headquartered in one of the four Convergence Regions (Campania, Calabria, Sicily and Puglia) to attend the event. “Italy – said in a note the ITA- is a net exporter of plants, trees and shrubs. Among the main markets for the potted plants there are Germany, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Belgium, and among the principal countries of destination for trees and shrubs there are also Spain, Turkey and Switzerland. For the regions of Southern Italy nursery gardening has recently become an increasingly important both for production and marketing. This concerns more specifically regions like Sicily, Puglia and Campania and some segments of the sector (like ornamental plants). One of the most dynamic realities in the South is represented by the Sicilian citrus nursery industry, due to a growing demand in the domestic market but also internationally for ornamental citruses.” At the economic and social level, nursery gardening has a strategic role for the regions of the South in terms of employment and profitability, which concerns not only those working in the sector but also those engaged in many related activities.
