Naqoura – Yesterday morning, the headquarters of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon welcomed in a joint visit the Minister of Defense of Finland Jussi Niinisto and the Minister of Defence of Estonia, Hannes Hanso. The two Ministers, accompanied by their respective delegations, met with Major General Luciano Portolano, Head of Mission and Force Commander of the UN in southern Lebanon. Together, they discussed the developments of the political situation and the status of internal security, the instability of the regional framework and the role of the mission, as a stabilizing force. “In the UNIFIL area of operation – explained Portolano – calm and stability still prevail, although tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, together with the deterioration of the regional balance make the situation volatile.” (9Colonne)
