(19 January 2016) “Latidos”, meaning “beats”, is an all-new solo exhibition by Gregorio Botta (with catalog text by Francisco Brugnoli, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Chile) on display from 26 January to the end of April at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lima. The MAC Museum of Lima, directed by Alvaro Roca-Rey and designed by architect Frederick Cooper Llosa of Peru, is home to important collections featuring contemporary Latin American artists. Gregorio Botta was born in Naples on April 18, 1953, but he lives and works in Rome. He conducted his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he attended courses taught by Toti Scialoja, a great teacher for many artists of the Roman school. A research on encaustic painting made him discover the material that marked his career: wax. This love will lead him to create original works with glass, fire, water, and air, in a profound search for radical simplicity both in elements and forms. Since 1991, Botta exhibited in numerous private galleries and in major public spaces. His works are featured in collections at the Mart in Rovereto, the Musma in Matera, the GAM and the MACRO in Rome, as well as the ECB in Frankfurt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, the Vanvitelli metro station in Naples and the Certosa of Padula in the province of Salerno.
