(21 January 2016) On October 24, 79 AD, it was just another regular Friday in Pompeii, but at 1pm, the Vesuvius begins releasing an amount of energy equal to 50.000 atomic bombs and, in less than 20 hours, under scalding ash and gas, the town is covered in six meters of pumice. In the book “Three Days of Pompeii” (edited in 2014 by Rizzoli), Alberto Angela recounts the biggest tragedy of Italy’s ancient history, following in their last hours some of the inhabitants of Pompeii. After the huge success in Italy (with 135.000 copies sold in one week), the book will soon be published in China thanks to China Social Science Press. For the occasion, Alberto Angela will travel Beijing on 28 January for a meeting at the Italian Cultural Institute at 6pm. In addition to presenting the book, the author and TV presenter will guide guests on a journey across time and space, back to the ancient world of Pompeii, thanks to a documentary made by the editorial staff of the TV program “Ulisse” especially for the Italian Cultural Institute.
