(10 February 2016) The stories told in Franco Murer’s drawings aren’t only stories of war and occupation, but also of fraternity and cooperation among the people who lived it. “Memories in black and white: lived stories” is a traveling exhibition linked to the history of Italian soldiers who, during World War II, took part in the Greek-Albanian campaign. The exhibition also features the pictorial testimonies of Andrea Papadatos and Takis Kazulidis, and is currently on its way to the Italian Cultural Institute of Athens. The exhibit opens officially on Friday, February 19 (at 7pm). The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Honorary Consular Agency of Italy in Kalamata, will remain open to the public until Saturday March 5. “Fifteen works tell the small episodes, those moments of everyday life in which people, not in the name of a truce or an armistice, but only for the fact of belonging to the human race, become unaware of the uniforms, their weapons lay forgotten and these soldiers reach out to one another in the name of solidarity, friendship, and love,” this is the exhibition as described by Margherita Bovicelli, Honorary Consular Agent in Kalamata in the catalog accompanying the display.
