(15 February 2016) “In sociology, the construction of reality, and thus different identities, both individual and collective, takes place through artistic experiences, considered ‘finite provinces of meaning’. These experiences synthesize, recall, evoke images, feelings, collective ideas of what it was and what could become.” Explains sociologist Milena Gammaitoni, offering a description that well suits Morena Antonucci’s new artistic project, “the new light of emigration”, welcomed and promoted by the Abruzzo Association of Wolfsburg (attended by Cav. Rocco Artale) in collaboration with the Institute of Trade Union Education Arbeit und Leben of Lower Saxony, and the Emigration Office of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg. The new project comes two years after the presentation of “Majas Wolf – Il lupo di Maja” at the Italian Institute of Culture of the German city. The inauguration, sponsored by the Italian Consular Agency in Wolfsburg, will be held April 4 at 4pm in the exhibition space of the City of Wolfsburg (Bürgerhalle), in the presence of the Councilor for Culture Thomas Muth, who also promoted the initiative. “The new light of emigration” will remain open to the public until April 22. The exhibition is the sum of the cooperation between sociologist Salvatore Di Vittorio and the artist, who chose to focus on the central role of Italian migration culture. Morena Antonucci artistically reworks and rewrites social issues, at times autobiographical, bringing out her own experience as daughter of Italian immigrants. Morena Antonucci arrives in Germany after a ten-year long process of artistic research in the Abruzzo region. Her latest art project integrates and implements the document / photo exhibition called “Good Luck”, presented on several occasions by the Abruzzo Association of Wolfsburg. For “the new light of emigration” the artist presents a single large work of art, for a total of 28sqm, an acrylic on canvas of fourteen modules, the same number of panels related to the exhibition “Good Luck”. The paintings will be exhibited on an elliptical shaped wooden structure built by the Volkswagen Auto City of Wolfsburg, covering an area of about 50 square meters and three meters tall. The artist wants to send a positive message of new contemporary migration, paying particular attention to the “light” that distinguishes the older generation of Italian emigration from the current one. According to the artist, the new generation of migrants, in a fully computerized and globalized society, is bound to a brighter future. (Sip)
