Marseille – La Villa Méditerranée in Marseille, in partnership with COPEAM (the Permanent Audio-Visual Conference of the Mediterranean) and Avitem (the Agency for Sustainable Development of Mediterranean Cities and Territories) celebrated the World Radio Day, established by UNESCO, to give the industry media a chance to discuss “radio in emergency and disaster relief operations”. “The World Radio Day – reads a note – celebrates this mean of communication, helpful for the development of international cooperation among broadcasters to encourage and promote access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality”. The evening opened with the screening of the documentary “Good Night Sarajevo” by Olivier Algora and Edu Marin (2014), followed by a panel discussion that highlighted the role radio still plays in conflict zones, after natural disaster and in the reconstruction process. In these circumstances, radio is capable of reaching the largest number of people in the world and as quickly as possible to allow everyone to have access to key information. (9Colonne)
