Tunis – The Italian Ambassador in Tunis Raimondo De Cardona met yesterday with Lawyer Abdessatar Ben Moussa, President of the Tunisian League for Human Rights and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate 2015. During the meeting, Ambassador De Cardona announced the decision to host a Garden of the Righteous within the Italian Embassy in Tunis, paying tribute to those Righteous men and women who fought crimes against humanity and totalitarianism. Lawyer Ben Moussa joined the initiative and agreed to collaborate with the Italian Embassy to identify persons deserving to be celebrated in the Garden. For each of them, there will be a tree honoring their actions. The project is promoted in cooperation with the NGO Gariwo, promoter behind the creation of many Gardens of the Righteous in Italy and abroad. For the first time in history, an Arab country will have its own Garden of the Righteous. The news comes directly from the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, who recorded a video-message broadcast during the dedication ceremony for six new trees planted in the Milan Garden of the Righteous for International Women’s Day. “We thought of Tunisia because it is a symbolic and important country in the heart of the Mediterranean,” stressed Gentiloni.
