(10 March 2016) Nahr al-Bared is a Palestinian refugee-camp located in northern Lebanon, 16 kilometers from Tripoli. It’s here that the Italian Development Cooperation carried out an ambitious project that has now given its fruits. Yesterday, the Monroe Hotel in Beirut hosted a ceremony to mark the conclusion of the project “Recovery and Reconstruction of Nahr el Bared Palestinian Refugee Camp and Conflict affected areas of North Lebanon.” More than 1.000 residential and commercial units, located in the adjacent areas of the Nahr El Bared Palestine Refugee Camp, were rehabilitated thanks to a €5 million grant from Italy. The works financed by Italy were implemented through a cash assistance program, with the support of institutional partners such as the Council for Development and Reconstruction and the Central Fund for the Displaced, as well as several Italian NGOs. The beneficiaries of this project were selected by the representatives of the Embassy of Palestine to Lebanon. The Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Massimo Marotti, reveals a note by the Italian Embassy, attended yesterday’s closing ceremony. (Red)
