Maputo. Italy will invest in food security in Ethiopia, Mozambique, Swaziland, Malawi and Zimbabwe, to the tune of 6 million euro through NGOs, with an additional 4 million euro allocated to United Nations programmes. These amounts are part of the country’s national plan to mitigate the impact of El Niño in Africa, as explained this morning by Under-Secretary Mario Giro of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “Italy,” stated Giro, “had allocated 1 million euro in January through the World Food Programme. Four million euro have already been activated for food security, and another two million will be invested in Ethiopia.” Additionally, “a similar programme for the Pacific is under creation.” (9colonne)
