Beijing. The Alliance of Italian Cooperatives’s Agribusiness section is participating in an agribusiness summit organized by the Phil Hogan, European Commissioner for Agriculture, in China and Japan. The Alliance’s agenda includes protecting geographic origin designations (in contrast to the “Italian-sounding”), and reducing duties and phytosanitary restrictions. The summit will take place 16-22 April. “It’s an important opportunity to showcase our agrifood production, within two appealing export markets,” said Giorgio Mercuri, President of the Alliance of Italian Cooperatives’s Agribusiness section. “We are the only Italian association present which is representing their entire sector. The majority of Italian companies present are cooperatives, in particular in winemaking, preserves and dairy. This demonstrates the value of the cooperative approach, which we as an Alliance have championed recently, including vis-à-vis the EU.” (9colonne)
