(April 21 2016) “She had a strong and beatiful personality. A Mistic, doctor of the church and patron saint of Italy and Europe. To play the role of the Sienese Saint have been a great experience for me”. The young actress Anita Tenerelli is starring as the main character in the docu-drama “Saint Catherine of Siena” directed by Elisabetta Valgiusti (who also directed many appreciated documentaries such as “Iraq Refugees SOS” and “Christians witness in the Middle East”) recounts Saint Catherine’s life through her writings. “The show has been filmed last year in Rome and Tuscany. It will air on the United States catholic network EWTN (Eternal World Television Network) on the 24th of April (and subsequently on the 28, 29, and 30th). Saint Catherine is synonymous of spirituality, charity, faith and carisma. It is not an easy role to play, Tenerelli states, “I tried to transmit in the best way possible Catherines compassion and wisdom and her ability to speak to both powerful and humble men and to be a light in the dark times in which she lived. I gave all my courage, passion and honesty. Catherine never went to school and never had teachers. She learns to read and write; her letters (she wrote 380 in the last decade of her life) are rich in poetry”. Tenerelli has Apulian roots was raised in Rome, and lived many years in Texas where she received a degree in Marketing and Communication. She studied acting both in Rome at the prestigious school “Teatro Azione” and in the United States. She gradually takes a step from drama to commedy. She is currently rehearsing the musical “Cabaret” in Rome, debuting at the “Teatro della Cometa” in June. In recent years she has dedicated herself principally to theatre but she ha salso had cinematic and television opportunities in Italy and abroad. “Saint Catherine of Siena” will air on EWTN, the world’s biggest catholic network with 11 television channels in several languages and with 264 million production houses in 145 countries.
