(May 10, 2016) The University of Udine has the leading role in a section of the exhibition “To be born again from beauty” at the Maxxi museum in Rome which bears witness to the work of protection and enhancement of archaeological and artistic heritage of Iraq carried out by Italy since 2003 until today. The multimedia exhibition is organised by the Italian Agency for Cooperation in Development together with the Directorate General for the Cooperation in Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Roman museum. It includes unpublished images, video, sound design, 3D animations and holograms accessible to everyone: citizens, tourists and scholars. The exhibition will remain open until May 22 and will then move to UNESCO in Paris. The section devoted to the University of Udine is titled “shared future” and bears witness to the activities carried out by Archaeologists from Friuli in Iraqi Kurdistan with the project “Land of Nineveh” started in 2012 and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Friulia Venezia Giulia Region and the Crup Foundation. It is a project that led to the documentation, conservation and valorisation of the hydraulic system of the Assyrian King Sennacherib’s acqueduct, especially with the discovery of 800 new extraordinary finds of archaeological and cultural interest and 6 new bas-reliefs; the documentation for entry in the “Tentative List” of UNESCO World Heritage and local human resources training.
