(June 24, 2016) Ornellaia (Leghorn) is conscious that every grape harvest is different from the last. Since 2009 they have celebrated the uniqueness of every year’s grape harvest with the “Vendemmia d’artista” project (artist’s harvest). Every year, a contemporary artist is commissioned for a work of art and to sign a series of limited edition labels, drawing inspiration from a word chosen by the wine expert to describe the year’s harvest. For this year’s 8th edition “Ornellaia 2013 L’eleganza”, the Bolgheri estate has commissioned the Japanese artist Yutaka Sone to create a ‘site specific’ work of art in marble for the estate and exclusive individually signed labels which will cover 109 large format at Ornellaia. The event was previewed in Japan at the Italian Embassy in Tokyo in presence of the Ambassador Domenico Giorgi: among those present are the artist himself, introduced by Mami Kataoka (Art Curator at Mori Museum in Tokyo), Alex Heinz (director and wine expert at Ornellaia) and Isao Miyajima one of the most influential Japanese wine journalists who is based in Italy. The Ornellaia event has been inserted in the official programme of events for the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Tokyo by the Italian Embassy. Yutaka Sone has chosen Carrara marble to convey the unique quality of Elegance. (Sip)
