Ankara – Addressing the statements by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, the Foreign Ministry points out that in Italy the rule of law is in its full force and that the autonomy of the judiciary branch is deeply respected. The same judiciary that, along with the police, has successfully worked in contrast to the Mafia and needs no encouragement to do so by anyone. As for relations between Europe and Turkey, the Foreign Ministry reiterates its strong condemnation of the coup attempt of July 15 and confirms the common concern of all Europe for the events in progress. Erdogan has attacked the European Union and its head of diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, for how they reacted to the coup in Turkey. He had also cutting remarks towards Italy: “The investigation on my son in Bologna might compromise our relations with Italy, which should rather address the Mafia,” said Erdogan, in an interview with Rai News 24.
