Safford – An international team of researchers led by National Institute for Astrophysics Francesca Annibali has shown that even a very low-mass dwarf galaxy is able to capture even smaller galaxies that are located in its proxity. This was discovered thanks to observations on the Binocular Telescope LBT (Large Binocular Telescope), located on Mount Graham, Arizona, around the dwarf galaxy DDO 68, that owns a total stellar mass of only 100 million solar masses, representing a thousandth of the Milky Way, our galaxy. The study, aside from Francesca Annibali and Monica Tosi, was carried by researchers from the National Institute of Astrophysics Michele Bellazzini and Felice Cusano (INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Bologna), Elena Sacchi (INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Bologna and University of Bologna), Diego Paris (INAF Rome Astronomical Observatory).
