(August 17, 2016) Gabriele d’Annunzio was a writer, poet, politician, journalist, and connoisseur and much more, the prophetic poet of Italian literature. Elegant, sophisticated, educated, and imaginatively brilliant, d’Annunzio was considered one of the most elegant men in Italy. He never hid his love for beauty (“I am a creature of luxury and I need the superfluous like I need air” he said of himself). His clothes, coats, handkerchiefs, gloves, starched collars, white piqué neck bands, and a bear fur coat documented Italian male fashion between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, in collaboration with the University of Laval and the Dante Alighieri Society of Quebec organised a conference titled ‘Gabriele d’Annunzio, father of Italian style’ curated by Giordano Bruno Guerri, writer and president of the Il Vittoriale degli Italian Foundation. The conference, held in Italian, will take place on Tuesday August 23 at 19:00 at the Maison de la literature in Quebec City. (Red)
