(27 September, 2016) Summer in Lampedusa. Grazia is a free-spirited woman, married to a fisherman and mother to three children. She has constant mood swings and her behaviour is incomprehensible to her neighbours: she swims naked, sings Patty Bravo and she often closes herself off in her own world. Her vitality and her unprejudiced attitudes attract suspecting glances from the other islanders who belong to a closed society regulated by unwritten laws in which women are expected to stay in their place. Grazia, played by Valeria Golina is the protagonist of the film written and directed by Emanuele Crialese titled “Respiro” (Breath) in 2002. The Italian Cultural Institute of Stockholm has organised a film screening and discussion at 18:00 with the theme of “isole” (islands) in collaboration with Folkuniversitetet. Sicily is one of the central themes of the film. Unique shots that capture the reality of the island, an arid and cheerful Lampedusa.
