(September 30, 2016) On the occasion of the centenary of the death of the Italian composer Francesco Paolo Tosti (1846-1916), the Duo Alterno, composed of soprano Tiziana Scandaletti and Riccardo Piacentini at the piano and photo-sounds, has devised the “Concert of dreams “, a tribute to the artist with some of his timeless masterpieces. The Duo Alterno will perform on October 5 at 18:30 at the Italian Institute of culture in Tokyo: the concert offers three particularly famous works (Ideal, I love you no more, The last song) and two complete cycles of masterpieces of the last creative phase: Two small nocturnal (1911) and Consolation (1916), on texts of his great fellow compatriot Gabriele D’Annunzio. Completing the program, three short compositions “in topic”, respectively, of Giacomo Puccini – always tied to Tosti because his compositions were regularly screened by Tosti before publication in Casa Ricordi – and two contemporary authors, Azio Corghi, dean of the living Italian composers, and Riccardo Piacentini, the duo pianist. From Corghi will be presented a recent “Night” composition (… breathe your breath, 2015) on Sappho’s texts translated by Ilaria Dagnini while from Piacentini will be performed a song specifically written for piano, video-projections and photo- sounds recorded in the open air in the native places of Tosti and inspired the eponymous duo of Tosti 1898: Aimez quand on vous aime! (2016). The program is a tribute to Tosti in contemporary way: past and present dialogue bringing attention not only to acquired masterpieces but to works of rare and valuable running. (Red)
