(10 October 2016) Five musical groups and 14 dates in just under a month, half of which in prestigious venues in New York, the undisputed temple of jazz: the new US tour of the Lucanian bassist Giuseppe Venezia starts on Thursday, October 6 in the Big Apple, where he performed with the Benny Benack Trio at La Gamelle, the French bistro on whose stage he will return on October 20. In other formations led by the talented Benack, described by the New York Times as “a charismatic young trumpeter”, Venezia has also performed at the Django New York (October 7) and he will also perform at Maureen’s Jazz Cellar in Nyack (October 21). The musician from Bernalda has already toured with the American musician in an Italian tour during the summer and recorded an album to be released in January. Venezia has also reach Cambridge, MA with the Craig Hartley Trio for a concert at the Dante Alighieri Society of Massachusetts (October 22), the organisation founded in the late nineteenth century to promote Italian culture and talents in the arts. During their US tour, the Craig Hartley Trio will record an album. Giuseppe will return to New York on October 23 to perform, along with Jerry Waldon’s saxophone quartet, in the legendary club ‘Smalls’ which has earned the reputation as the hotbed of new jazz talents since the 1990s, accompanied by pianist Jebb Patton, considered one of the most promising musicians of his generation. Also in the historical Greenwich Village, is the Fat Cat, another renowned jazz club where the Lucanian musician will perform on October 24 with Todd Herbert’s saxophone ensemble. (Red)
