Berne. The Morteratsch glacier in Switzerland’s Bernina range is five meters shorter and six meters lower. This was revealed by the innovative monitoring technique with drones and 3D models created by the Remote Sensing of Environmental Dynamics Laboratory Group of the Environmental Sciences Department (DISAT) of the University of Milan-Bicocca. The Remote Sensing Group, in cooperation with Geomatics, Glaciology and Microbiology groups, have organised two expeditions on the Engadine glacier to study its development during the summer season. The measurements were carried out in collaboration with Eyedrone, to create 3D digital models and to estimate the volume of ice lost during the melting season. (9Colonne)
